Toledo-Start Pride Month off by marching in the Old West End Festival parade.

Folks who would like to show their pride and support of the mission of Equality Toledo are invited to meet at the house of board member Cheri Holdridge, 2547 Robinwood Ave. in Toledo, at 8:50 a.m. on Saturday, June 7.

Please wear an Equality Toledo T-shirt or bring $10 to purchase a cool, new royal blue T shirt.

The parade begins at 10 a.m. and will end on Bancroft. You are encouraged to bring

Even if you can't march in the parade, please make plans to drop by the Equality Toledo Booth, 2015 Parkwood, at the Old West End Festival, June 7-8 between the hours of 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Plan to purchase a new Equality Toledo T-shirt, register to vote, renew your Equality Toledo membership, and learn more about the life of 15-year-old Lawrence King, a gay student in California, who was murdered by a classmate.

Let's remember Lawrence King, and pledge to end the violence against our lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender youth.

Building African American lesbian culture is group's goal

by Kristen Schmidt Harris

Cleveland-PuNané describes themselves as "a group of women working together to showcase African American lesbian culture in Cleveland."

The group was formed three years ago and has found its niche in producing an annual talent showcase that highlights some of Cleveland's hottest local performers. It also sponsors an annual jazz and poetry event during Cleveland's Black Gay Pride week at the end of July and beginning of August.

PuNané's ultimate goal is to help build solidarity among women who love women. They work to do this by connecting with women in the community and by providing an affordable, fun, and inspiring evening of entertainment.

PuNané wants to be seen as a resource for community building. PuNané is very happy to show their Pride in being a part of Cleveland's LGBT community.
